Road-Guard-enabled programs targeted at reducing fuel expenditures provide great cost benefits to vehicle fleets. Self-insured fleets have additional financial incentive to adopt or encourage safer driving programs targeted to reduce operating costs by decreasing accident rates.
Our field trials show that aggressive driving is likely to be associated with increased fuel consumption and increased involvement in road crashes.
Use fuel efficiency measurements as an indicator of safe driving
Beyond fuel economy, Road-Guard enables fleet companies to measure the safety benefits of fuel-efficient driving. This is important because the fuel consumption reductions of a program that seeks to influence both safety and fuel consumption are likely to be much easier to measure than the safety effects. Fuel consumption can be easily and regularly measured, even at the level of an individual vehicle, and its cost is known. In contrast, even a large reduction in crash risk may not be measurable in the short term or at the level of the individual vehicle. Overall crash costs for an organization are often poorly estimated. Thus, using fuel consumption as a performance indicator may help to sustain and encourage programs that also have safety benefits.
Proof of Value trials provide actionable information
Road-Guard offers several types of “Proof of Value” field trial programs that provide measurable information on fuel economy and operational cost savings upon which action can be taken. During field trials, Road-Guard applications are installed on fleet drivers’ mobile phones. During the first half of the program driver performance is recorded without providing any driver instructions, while during the second half, instructions are given, helping drivers transform their driving habits into more eco-friendly, fuel-efficient and safer driving.
Our field trials show 15-25% fuel savings and significant operating cost reduction through decreased accident rates.
